Year 10 students explored the many career opportunities available in our region. By exposing students to a range of vocational experiences we aim to raise awareness of the diversity in career options available to them, create awareness of various vocations and elevate aspirations.
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence was a chance for our students to come together and participate in lunchtime activities, encouraging and supporting their peers along the way. Bullying. No Way!
Our Year 11 & 12 VCE English cohort headed in to Bairnsdale today to listen to an invaluable lecture about the skills required to achieve success in English and the texts they are studying.
Last week the Year 9/10 Outdoor Education students went on an overnight camp to the Lake Tyers Glasshouse. The students enjoyed the opportunity to use their skills and set up their tents, cook on a Trangia, tie knots and light a fire all while having minimal impact on the environment. A highlight for most students was either the night games or doing a spot of fishing.
Our Swim Team recently competed in the East Gippsland Swimming Competition in Orbost. Congratulations to all who participated, you put in a fantastic effort! Congratulations also goes to the Year 7’s who could not attend due to camp but completed time trials last week, great work!
During Year 7 Camp at Coonawarra we saw some amazing resilience and team work from our cohort. We hope you all had a great time!

Our annual Swimming Sports was a huge success. We had more students getting in the pool to compete for their houses than ever before! We would like to congratulate all participants and thank those who provided encouragement on the day.
Last night was our annual Presentation Evening. We would like to thank all who attended and congratulate all recipients of awards. A special thanks goes to the sponsors of this event, we would like to acknowledge the ongoing support we receive from many members of our wider community.
Congratulations to our graduating Class of 2018. You all looked stunning on Friday evening and we hope all of our graduates, family, and friends had a lovely evening celebrating together. We will miss you and wish you all the very best of luck with whatever your future may hold!
Our annual VCAL Celebration and morning tea is a wonderful opportunity where our VCAL cohort presents the success of projects completed throughout the year.
We would like to wish our Graduating Class of 2018 all the best as they transition into the next phase of their journey. They had a great time celebrating their last day of school before they put in the hard yards.
A team of Year 9 and 10 girls recently attended the Intermediate Basketball Competition held in Traralgon. The girls should all be really proud of their efforts on the day. They showed great sportsmanship, teamwork improved their skills each game which was amazing to see especially when they were up against teams that all played basketball at a high level in the state and nationally.
A team of our Year 8 girls competed in the Gippsland Regional Basketball Tournament at Traralgon. Unfortunately, we lost all our games but the girls did a fantastic job considering they only had five players. Well done!
VCAL students recently held our annual Loud Shirt Day fundraiser. Despite the weather the event was a huge success with many students enjoying the BBQ and taking part in the Fun Fair. A total of $320.36 was raised and will be donated to the Taralye Foundation who provides early intervention services for children with hearing loss.
Well done to all of our students who participated in the Gippsland Athletics Championships at the Newborough Athletics Track - great effort!
Forty students traveled to the Bairnsdale Recreation Centre to participate in the Basketball Championships. During the matches we saw some great technique, court vision, teamwork and amazing sportsmanship from all students. Well done to all teams, especially to our Year 8 Girls and Intermediate Girls for making it through to the next round.
Our Year 9 / 10 Outdoor Education students rode the mountain bikes in the vicinity of Blores Hill as a way of putting into practice what they have learnt throughout their current unit of work.

Our VCE Outdoor Education students braved the elements and took to the mountains on their ski camp at Mt Hotham. This was a fabulous opportunity to put into practice the skills and knowledge acquired during their theoretical lessons.
Two teams of Year 8 & 9 students attended the Mathematics Challenge Day at Federation University in Churchill. All of our students put in a valiant effort, our best result of the day being fourth place. Well done on your commendable effort - we will work on bringing home the medal next year!

On Saturday night ten gorgeous couples took the floor at our annual Debutante Ball. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Lakes Entrance, parents, students and staff who helped make this night a success!
Well done to our junior boys netball team who travelled to the Traralgon Basketball Stadium to compete in the inter school sports.
Year 10 students attended ‘Inspiring Young Men’, an event initiated to increase the aspirations of young men in our regional areas to continue with schooling and to encourage consideration of appropriate training pathways which will allow them to achieve their objectives.
Our whole school athletics carnivals saw students demonstrate amazing team spirit, we also had outstanding participation from those who attended. Well done to all involved and thank you to the staff and students who made the day a success.
Four of our Year 8/9 students attended the Intermediate Girls State Squash Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Albert Park. Well done on the way you represented our college!

Students from Year 9 participated in the Gippsland Badminton Championships at the Morwell Leisure Center. They played some great games, beating teams from both Wonthaggi and Drouin. Unfortunately, the day finished with losing to Traralgon so we did not make it onto the next stage of the competition. A fabulous effort by all who attended, your efforts made us all very proud!
Today our VCAL cohort held another very successful fundraising event. The BBQ was a hit with dozens cueing up for the delicious sausages and hamburgers. Between the BBQ and gold coin donations for out of uniform a total of $412 was raised for 'Kiss Goodbye to MS' who works to accelerate research into multiple sclerosis. Well done VCAL and thank you to all of our students who contributed to making the day a success!
