We were fortunate enough to have five talented students qualify and proudly represent our College in the State Athletics Championship. On the day we had some very impressive results; Jake Perrett 3rd shot put, 3rd 100m, 2nd long jump, 2nd 200m. Jeffery Walker, 2nd shot put. Julia Baker 4th Javelin. Kaylene Walker competed in shot put and javelin. Will Neville unfortunately couldn’t attend his discuss event. If you see these students around please congratulate them on their amazing achievement. Our Year 7 & 8 boys had the opportunity to undertake a full day of workshops facilitated by The Man Cave. The purpose of the day was to empower our boys with the skills, courage and character to reach their greatest potential. The sessions were well received my many and we are very grateful for the opportunity to host this wonderful initiative.
we had twenty-four students represent the College in Newborough at the Gippsland Athletics. Congratulations to all who attended, all of our athletes participated to the best of their abilities with some improving on their personal best! We participated against twenty-six other schools from across Gippsland and finished 8th, which is an amazing achievement! We also have five individuals who have qualified to compete in the State Athletics Competition to be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.
Last night our debating team competed in the Annual Inter-School Debate agains Orbost Secondary College. Our team argued that mobile phones should not be banned in school. Unfortunately this year we did not take down the title...there is always next year!!!
Students who had received the highest number of Positive Recognition Awards during Term 3 had a wonderful time walking to The Entrance today. They also enjoyed playing Mini Golf and had a delicious fish and chip lunch. Yum!
Congratulations to all of our students who competed in the East Gippsland Athletics last week. Conditions were tough, but well done to all of our students who made it through to the next round. The next round will be held on Thursday the 19th of September at Newborough Athletics Track.
Our intermediate boys netball team competed this week in the Gippsland round at the Traralgon Basketball Stadium. Our Year 9 & 10 boys who attended stood tall, played with spectacular sportsmanship and never gave up! Well done to the entire team, you all played various roles on the court and played them well.
Well done to everyone who participated in out recent Whole School Athletics Carnival. It was wonderful to see such a fantastic display of effort and teamwork. We also had some wonderful costumes this year as all a put in their best efforts to support their team and wear their colours with pride!
A huge effort was demonstrated by our students from all year levels who attended the East Gippsland Inter-School Netball Competition at the Bairnsdale Netball World Centre. Great job everyone!
Every year music students from East Gippsland come together to perform a concert for the community and their families. Students in senior, junior and intermediate levels performed alongside each other at the wonderful concert held on the final evening.
The VCE Media, Visual Communication & Design and Studio Arts classes headed to Melbourne to check out this years Top Arts & Top Design featuring our own Vanessa Bronowicki! It was a wonderful day and a very proud moment to see Vanessa’s name on the big screen, her amazing animation, along with the rest of the showcase has been viewed by tens of thousands of people in the past few months.
Lakes Entrance Secondary College was extremely proud to host Reconciliation Day activities. Students from our community participated in a range of activities and had a delicious BBQ lunch. It was a wonderful day of celebrations and was fabulous to see our community celebrate this important occasion as one.
The Year 9/10 Outdoor Education students participated in an overnight hiking camp along the Mitchell River. The weather held up and the students got to enjoy all the fantastic views and aching muscles that came with the 20km round trip.
Our Intermediate girls team headed to the State Volleyball Championships at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre They played extremely well, results are as follows...lost first game 2 sets to 1, lost second 2-0, won third 2-0. It was a great day and we are very proud of our team!
Our annual Cross Country was a huge success and allowed our students to compete against each other whilst demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and support for each other. Congratulations to all who have progressed to the next level of competition. Well done to Albatross who took home the shield!
Each year our Year 12 cohort heads into Boucher Hall, Bairnsdale to attend a Tertiary Information Session (TIS). At this event students are informed about the process of applying for tertiary education including TAFE & University, they are also able to speak to representatives from tertiary providers who come from around the state.
We had a massive 6 Volleyball teams compete in the Gippsland Volleyball Championships. All competed with great sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience. Our junior Year 8 girls came runners up and the team that won through to state was our intermediate girls. Well done!
Recently we held our annual Open Night. We were excited to meet some of our prospective families at the BBQ and then as they took the time to engage in activities and speak to our staff and students.
Our VCAL cohort planned and organised our annual Market Day event to great success. We had an out of uniform day, BBQ and a range of market stalls. Students from Lakes Entrance Primary School also attended to help us make the day a success. All funds raised will be donated to Melon’s Cottage.
Our Year 11 students took part in an interactive game with staff from Federation University. Throughout this activity they learnt about the application process and various aspects of university life.
Our Year 8 cohort attended the East Gippsland Field Days today as part of their Home Group Program. Students are participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and the Field Days was an opportunity to experience different horticulture and agricultural practices.
Our students, along with guests from Lakes Entrance Primary School commemorated all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. Lest We Forget.
Our VCAL cohort did a great job hosting a BBQ and out of uniform day to raise money for the Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club, raising a fabulous $258.75 for the club. Well done!
Yesterday we had two teams compete in the East Gippsland Volleyball Championships. Our Year 9/10 boys & girls teams played and won! Teams already through to the next round are our Year 7 boys & girls, Year 8 girls & Year 11/12 girls. This is an outstanding result with six teams going through to the next round!
Our Year 8 students recently returned from five days in Canberra. During this time they had the opportunity to undertake many interactive and engaging activities around the Humanities - Civics and Citizenship and the Science curriculums.
Year 10 students explored the many career opportunities available in our region. By exposing students to a range of vocational experiences we aim to raise awareness of the diversity in career options available to them, create awareness of various vocations and elevate aspirations.
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence was a chance for our students to come together and participate in lunchtime activities, encouraging and supporting their peers along the way. Bullying. No Way!
Our Year 11 & 12 VCE English cohort headed in to Bairnsdale today to listen to an invaluable lecture about the skills required to achieve success in English and the texts they are studying.
Last week the Year 9/10 Outdoor Education students went on an overnight camp to the Lake Tyers Glasshouse. The students enjoyed the opportunity to use their skills and set up their tents, cook on a Trangia, tie knots and light a fire all while having minimal impact on the environment. A highlight for most students was either the night games or doing a spot of fishing.
Our Swim Team recently competed in the East Gippsland Swimming Competition in Orbost. Congratulations to all who participated, you put in a fantastic effort! Congratulations also goes to the Year 7’s who could not attend due to camp but completed time trials last week, great work!
